If a writer writes a story and he changes halfway through
what’s a storyteller’s option, what’s a man to do
should he keep it safe and boring with the characters he knew
what’s a storytellers option, what’s a man to do
so I raise my pen and start my story over again
and I’ll take my time in writing my next chapter
and erase old lines while singing to the rafters
and I’ll be just fine reciting my disaster after you
if a paragraph’s a painting and your pigment’s running thing
and the narrator’s a narcissist can he begin
to rewrite his life without a broken heart and thicker skin

when stories change from we to I
and lonely tears fall from the sky

on page after page where the ink won’t dry
